Why care about Pelvic Health?
Pelvic floor dysfunction affects men and women and is more common than you think. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialized branch of physiotherapy performed by a physiotherapist who has done additional coursework in pelvic health. Your assessment will consist of a therapist doing a full evaluation similar to any other physiotherapy appointment but will also include discussing specific aspects of pelvic health and could include an external and internal assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor muscles are located between the hip bones and the sacrum, and they serve as a sling to support the pelvic organs including the bladder, colon, and uterus.
